October 8 - Exit Split

I agree with Wallis' group that: "Math and science are in everything. In music, the scale of an octave is on a logarithmic scale. This would be a good way to introduce logarithms and help students understand them better." It is too bad that group theory has so many prerequisites because music is rife with it. I do think that showing basic symmetry and a simplified version of group action could link math to music, and even dancing, in a high school setting.

I believe teaching the math first and then the metaphor is important, since simply doing the metaphor, the student would just relate it to their own experience (when it comes to the learning aspect). Therefore, it's easy to misunderstand the activity, without having a good background first.
